I left my comfort zone today and made Udon and Chicken pan fried noodles.

It was a bit easier than I thought. I just cooked the Udon in boiling water, then moved it to a pan with a bit of oil and fried it up along with chicken, soy sauce and garlic.

It's 3:30AM and I'm working and listening to I.V., the title track to Saw 4 by X Japan.

Man, I love this music!

It's 4PM and for today's Coffee Thoughts, I'm showing you how I use a post it note to get small things done.

Post it notes are essential for remembering to do small tasks throughout the day.

I keep a few pads at my desk, and have built a system that works well.

All you need is post it notes and a pen or pencil.

This is what I do:

This Wednesday Wisdom is a very simple, yet powerful statement that I have carried with me throughout my working life.

It's meaningful, yet serves as a warning to others.

Don't take My Friendship For A Weakness.

Simply put, I don't mind being friendly with people both in my personal life as well as at the office, but if they think that they can use that friendship to take advantage of me, they're wrong. Dead wrong.

Tuesday, 16 August 2016 16:00

It's 4:00 PM and time for quick coffee thoughts as I take a break while waiting for this coffee to brew.

1. Not everything needs your immediate attention. Filter the information!

2. Your voicemail box is there for a reason... Let your callers use it.

3. I wish I had a slice of cheesecake to go with this coffee.

"But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." — James 1:6

We all have our own set of beliefs and faith. For some, it's a higher power. For others, it's faith and belief in self.

I don't judge a man based on faith.

But when you read the verse above, it doesn't matter whether you believe in a higher power or not, the message is true for all...

Do not let doubt set in.

If doubt controls you, then you will never accomplish the things that you want.

People have asked where I do my Blog Posts

The answer is pretty simple. Whereever I can sit down, write and not be bothered.

If you're not satisfied with that answer, the this is where I'm working right now.

What you see in the photo is this: I'm sitting in my 8 year old daughter's bedroom right now on August 9th, 2016. It's 12:38 in the morning and I'm using her Pororo table (Pororo is a Korean penguin character).

Wednesday, 01 March 2017 14:08

I've done a bunch of posts here on 4PM Coffee about the Raspberry Pi builds I've done.

This one isn't any different. I got tired of always having to transfer music to the Raspberry Pi from my computer when I wanted to listen to a new song I'd purchased or something.

The trusty RunePi does a great job for when you're jacked in and right next to it, but what about when you want to go out and take your tunes with you?

Well, most people would have to transfer the music to their phone or portable music player.

I Just Realized I Am Out Of Coffee.

It's Friday and it's the end of the world. Shut the door. Suck Eggs. Die. TGIF.

Seriously... I am completely out of coffee at work!

I forgot to pick more up on the way to work this morning, and now, I'm staring into the bottom of an empty coffee can.

Friday, 17 February 2017 13:31

I realized that I never really showed you guys my music setup at work, even though I refer to it just about every 4PM coffee!

The system runs two Raspberry Pi computers. Both are 512MB Raspberry Pi Model B's and they are connected to the internet via Wi-Fi.

I have RuneAudio on one and the other is just storage for both work and my music/photos/documents. The primary RuneAudio Pi is connected to the secondary Pi's music folder.

Both Pi's have Class 10 Sandisk Extreme (U3) 128GB MicroSD Cards.

The RuneAudio player (I call it "RunePi") has roughly 30GB of music loaded plus 52 internet radio stations.

Just a quick update while I sit here on lunch break.

I really felt in the mood for some sushi today, so I splurged on some "cheap" sushi around the corner.

Decided to also get a pop today too. One must spoil themselves once in a while, right?

It's 4PM and Here's My Coffee Thoughts for Wednesday, February 15, 2017

How I'm Feeling:

For the past couple weeks, I've felt a bit unfocused. I've got so many things going on that it's all beginning to come apart at the seams.

I have a bunch of stuff to do at work, but I lack the gumption to really put my heart into it.

I have a ton of reviews to do, but don't really feel like doing that either.

I've spread myself thin on the websites I'm working on. There's four sites that I should be working on and maintaining, but every time I sit down, I really don't feel like working on any of them.

I need to refocus, and that's going to be the next topic that I address on this blog.

Tuesday, 17 January 2017 14:09

It's true... After almost 6 months without a main laptop, I'm finally back in business.

In June of 2016 my main Toshiba P97-A7200 laptop died it's final death (I'd resurrected it about six times previously). The laptop had been good, and lasted me four years of non-stop use.

On Monday, 17-Jan.-2017, My new MSI GP62 Gaming Laptop came in.

Thursday, 05 January 2017 05:52

I just woke up from a crazy dream.

It's one of those "work" dreams where you're mind is working overtime while you're sleeping and you wake up feeling like you just did a 10 hour day.

I was working for a cab company in Ann Arbor, MI. I guess the location was part of the dream because I know Ann Arbor so well, being raised there and all.

This cab company was much like a Kirby Vacuum company or a Cutco Knives door to door sales place.

Thursday, 22 December 2016 11:56

Unless you're a knife collector (or from Japan), you probably have never heard of a Higo No Kami Knife.

Let me give you a bit of backstory:

Motosuke Nagao is the last remaining knife maker in Japan that is licensed by the Japanese Government to make knives in the traditional way that the Samurai Swords used to be created. The knives are created under the family company, Nagao Seisakusho.

He is the last of a long line of celebrated knife and swordsmiths.

When he's gone, it very well could be a fact that the license, and traditional Japanese swordsmithing ways dies with him, and the Higo No Kami knife line ends forever.

It's 4PM and Here's My Coffee Thoughts for Monday, September 19th, 2016

I usually have something to say every day when 4PM rolls around. Today, surprisingly, I don't have much other than just a drive to get things done.

I'm quite busy right now, so I hope that you'll forgive me if today's 4PM Coffee doesn't have much.

I'll see you again tomorrow at 4PM.

Friday, 16 September 2016 16:00

This post is totally safe for work. I Swear.

I found the site just cruzin' round the internet today, and got a good laugh.

For a current world where it's fashionable for men to carry a purse, there's one that stands above all others: Nutsac.

Thursday, 15 September 2016 16:00

It's 4PM And I Really Need This Coffee Break! Seriously.

Well, after 4 years of daily use, thousands of miles of travel, and even a new power switch, I think my main laptop finally has died for good.

This morning when I got to work, it wouldn't power up.

I tore it apart and tried everything under the sun to fix it. I can power it up, boot to the Ubuntu desktop and begin working. At some point while I'm working, the whole computer freezes and gives my a Undefined FIFO Error. I have no choice but to hard restart, losing anything I might have been working on.

Wednesday, 14 September 2016 16:00

Over the past few days, I've been playing around with the Raspberry Pi 2 and OSMC

OSMC is free media player software that loads into the Raspberry Pi and essentially creates a full media center capable of running movies, TV videos, music, photos and apps.

I already have a Chromecast, and it should be mentioned that we don't pay for standard cable, but the OSMC media center blows Chromecast out of the water as far as the content you have access to.

It's 4PM and time for Coffee Thoughts again!

Today we're looking at essential snacks that should be in your bag or backpack at all times in case you get hungry.

For me, that happens a lot. I don't really eat breakfast, and lunches are usually very light and inexpensive.

I carry a good number of snacks in my bag to carry me over during the work day, and that helps the day to go much better than sitting, trying to work and going hungry.

Here's a list of the snacks that I have in my bag currently:

How many times have you been stuck in a meeting or in a conversation that should have only take a couple minutes, but rather it ran far longer than needed?

I was stuck in a three hour meeting.

A potential vendor came to the offices this morning touting a new peice of software (which cannot be mentioned by name) that could tie all of our video systems together.

The actual sales pitch really only took about 45 minutes, and the demo was the other 15. The other two hours were wasted on "what if's".

What if we did this... What if you gave us that... All hypothetcals.

I realized that I needed to make another change in my life.

Friday, 09 September 2016 16:00

I Failed.

I had promised to get my August Report out by the 8th, but it didn't happen.

I feel bad that it didn't happen, but you know what? It's ok because I know I did everything in my power to make it happen, and forces beyond my control played a cruel game against me.

Friday, 09 September 2016 13:10

I can't believe that it's been a month already since I started the Purpose Driven Dad!

This post is special for me.

It's the first post in a series of monthly status updates on how things are going with Lifestyle Design, Making Massive Changes and in Making Money Online through passive income.

Thursday, 08 September 2016 16:00

Perhaps you might have noticed that there was no 4PM Coffee Thoughts yesterday.

I was busy trying desperately to get this website onto a new hosting provider.

Liquidweb, my previous host, was bought out and my hosting account was migrated around 8:45AM to the new provider.

I should have known something was going to go wrong.

It did.

Tuesday, 06 September 2016 16:00

It's 4PM Coffee Time after a Long Weekend!

First of all, spending an overnight in a non-air conditioned house isn't fun.

From Sunday to Monday, we'd spent time with family, but the house we stayed in... well, I guess they didn't believe in using AC. Props to them for saving money, but I was miserable.

Sitting around dripping in your own sweat wasn't fun.

Friday, 02 September 2016 18:07

I’d only fallen asleep around 1:30, and less than 45 minutes later, my wife woke me up in somewhat of a panic that our daughter needed urgent attention.

The side of her face was puffy, and she been in a lot of discomfort.

My wife said she probably would need to go into urgent care, and that I would need to take her because she had to stay home with our sons that were still sleeping like rocks.

Thursday, 01 September 2016 16:00

What's Going On: It's a new month and some really cool things are in the works!

It's Thursday and a new month, and I've got a bunch of things in the works over the next couple weeks.

Looking to do quite a few more reviews on some of the items I own and have coming in.

Along with the reviews, I'm working on a one month post -- a review of my first month in Lifestyle Design.

Wednesday, 31 August 2016 16:00

What's On My Mind:
How To Function On 3 Hours Of Sleep A Night

One of the things that's changed in a big way since I started the Journey in Lifestyle Design is my sleep habits.

I realized that in order to be successful and get the things you want out of life, you're going to need more time to get the things that need to be done finished.

For most people who have a 9 to 5 and family, like myself, there's only one time during a 24 hour period that you can get this time from:

Just Ordered: TFZ Series 1S IEM Earbuds #004 (Clear/Purple)

I'm really excited about a new purchase I've just made. Many of you know I'm a bit of an audiophile, and my quest for good sound just got another addition.

The TFZ Series 1S Earbuds are single driver, dual chamber earbuds that have received a lot of good reviews since Massdrop began offering them.

Monday, 29 August 2016 09:24

Hi all. Yet another Monday and it's the last one in August.

Almost one full month of the 12 month Lifestyle Redesign is done, and it's mostly been about changing the way I think and the things I do in preparation for making massive changes to life.

This past weekend was busy.

Friday, 26 August 2016 16:00

TGIF is a weekly post series running on Friday's at 4PM instead of the usually scheduled "4PM Coffee Thoughts".

This series consists of random tidbit and short posts that didn't fit anywhere else on the site during the week.

This Week: VOEZ, Raspberry Pi Zero, a 3500 Lumen Flashlight and What's in my music player.

Thursday, 25 August 2016 16:00

If you have to have a project proposal meeting, might as well rock everyone's world.

When you schedule a meeting, the goal is to get 80% or more attendance. Don't worry if a couple people can't make it. Chances are that they're not important anyway.

Your goal is to just get three types of people in the meeting:

Thursday, 25 August 2016 11:47

You're not always going to succeed.

Everyone fails at some point.

In anything you do, there's a chance of failure, and with somethings, the chance is larger than others.

This is the biggest reason that people fail when they attempt to do something:

Wednesday, 24 August 2016 16:00

Getting Unmotivated Happens

We don't always have the gumption to do the things that need to be done.

Sometimes, the things that we need to do most are the hardest things to do.

At the Corporation, I often feel the life being sucked out of me as I sit at my desk staring at the computer screen.

Other times, I feel too tired to stay up and work on my Lifestyle Design Plan.

It's OK to not have the motivation, but...

Tuesday, 23 August 2016 15:48

It's 4PM again and it's time for Coffee Thoughts!

Today, I've had the Shure SE215 In Ear Monitors plugged into my ears most of the day.

I've been listening to SoundCloud tracks rather than my next door cubicle buddy playing stupid facebook videos (He can't find his headphones).

Monday, 22 August 2016 09:40

Monday is a big day.

Most people like to hate Monday's. I do too.

Monday is the most essential day in your work week.

It's the day that you need to properly plan the rest of the week in order for things to run smoothly.

Sunday, 21 August 2016 00:02

“Hold On A Moment… Let Me Find A Pen.”

I’m sure that you’ve had one of those aggravating moments where you need to jot a phone number or address down, but there are just no pens to be found anywhere.

Then, when you do find one, it doesn’t write. Great.

There is one pen that can end all the hassle forever.

Thursday, 18 August 2016 08:26

It's been just over two weeks since I created this site, The "Purpose Driven Dad" with the intent of taking massive action and changing my life in a dramatic way.

It may not look to anyone like I've had success.
It also doesn't seem like anything is happening.

If you're working on making life better for you and your family, most people won't see the massive changes right away.

Monday, 15 August 2016 09:07

This weekend was highly uneventful to say the least.

While the lawn did get mowed, my wife and I spent most of the weekend getting her setup for homeschooling our kids this upcoming school year. There's still a lot to be done, but we managed to make good strides in progress.

Also binge watched "Between" on Netflix yesterday. Good show, but since all the actors and actresses are over 22, it's hard to get into the show from a realism standpoint.

Friday, 12 August 2016 13:21

It's not about the money.

It was only $14.51. It is, however about the Corporate to Franchise mentality and the way Franchises view Business Practices considering that places like Little Caesar's thrives on low paid employees.

It's also about the deficiency of good training of those employees that can lead to problems.

Monday, 08 August 2016 12:27

I had lunch today for under $1

It's not bad considering the fact that most people spend an average of $3400 a year on lunches.

I purchased a 5 pack of Sapporo Ichiban Ramen noodles for $3.99 and a 24oz jar of KimChee (I love the stuff, but it's an acquired taste) for $5.

Monday, 08 August 2016 09:50

Hi guys!

It's Monday morning and this weekend was a bit rough. I'm sitting in my office right now feeling like I could use another three or four hours of sleep.

It was a busy weekend, spending time with the family and then Dad on Sunday, but overall, it was a really nice time and I enjoyed it.

Wednesday, 03 August 2016 20:51

Let me give you a little history...

My daughter is brillant, and independent, but she works for a small business. Last Friday was payday, but after presenting the paycheck to the bank, she found that there was no funds, and of course, the check bounced. She was penalized $35 and who knows how much the business was hit with. Guess the story is that the boss "didn't have time to go to the bank".

Wednesday, 03 August 2016 16:26

GRRRR... So I just got a text from my wife... her main computer just died. It was a desktop that all the kid's homeschool documents and files were on.

While she does have a small laptop, it's not powerful like the desktop was, and she's now on the phone wailiing in my ear (I have the headset on while I'm typing) about how she can't do work or teach the kids.

Wednesday, 03 August 2016 14:29

The best place to start is with a bit of background.

My life hasn't turned out to be what I was dreaming of... In fact, it's about the furthest thing from what I'd dreamed while growing up. From world travel to having the disposable income to live life to it's fullest, those dreams are but a faded memory within a broken and beaten man.
